An organization that represents roughly 950 special districts in Oregon has stepped up for one of its own — the Josephine Community Library District.
Frank Stratton, executive director of the nonprofit Special Districts Association of Oregon, confirmed on Wednesday his organization wrote a check for $14,210 to reimburse the library district for the legal fees it incurred in a battle against a right-wing defunding effort earlier this year. Aubree Schmidt, Chloe Owens and Bailey Sandquist combined to drive in 10 runs as Hidden Valley crushed 11th-ranked Junction City 12-3 in a non-league softball game Wednesday in Murphy.
Schmidt went 3-for-4 with a double, four runs and four RBIs in the Mustangs' tuneup for the Class 4A state playoffs.

Campfire and parking restrictions went into effect starting this week along the 4-mile recreation section of the Illinois River, and an alcohol use ban along the river will go into effect later this month.
The Illinois River has seen significant safety issues and conflicts over illegal campfires, road safety and alcohol use, prompting the U.S. Forest Service to impose seasonal regulations each year.
