The Grants Pass City Council adopted a practical list of goals including economic development and more home construction this week — avoiding pie-in-the-sky past goals like developing a Rogue River whitewater park and using tax dollars to restore the towering century-old Redwoods Hotel downtown that's mostly vacant.

Grants Pass scored a come-from-behind win in the opener and South Medford breezed to victory in the nightcap of Friday's Southwest Conference baseball doubleheader at George Russell Field.
The Panthers (14-9, 9-8) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to grab a 6-5 lead in the first game.
But the Cavemen (11-9, 8-7) scored four of their own in the bottom of the inning to break away for the 9-6 win.

Law enforcement agencies converged on a property just outside Grants Pass on Friday morning and found over a half pound of fentanyl, dozens of guns and a 3-D printer used for printing untraceable "ghost guns," according to the Grants Pass Police Department.
"After numerous suspicious devices were found, the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad also responded to the scene to render the devices safe," the agency said.
The progressive metal band Queensryche will headline the opening Boatnik concert on May 23 in Riverside Park, with Emissary opening. Tickets are on sale at boatnik.com.

The countdown to Boatnik is at T-minus 12 days and counting.
Starting May 22, the longtime Memorial Day weekend festival will take over Riverside Park, spilling over into downtown Grants Pass for the May 24 parade.
However, while most Boatnik events are free, there are a few that require tickets. Buying those tickets early will save you some money.
