ASHLAND — Fire season hasn't yet arrived in Southern Oregon, but the region is bracing for what state leaders are predicting will be a long and intense 2025 fire season.

Grants Pass' Callie Brandes cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to win the high jump at Saturday's Grants Pass Rotary Invitational meet at Russ Werner Field. Brandes finished first in all four events she entered Saturday: the high jump, the 100-meter dash, the 400 relay and the 1,600 relay.

Crater's two elite distance runners delivered as usual, but no one at Saturday's Grants Pass Rotary Invitational track and field meet had a day like the Cavers' Callie Brandes.
The Grants Pass senior won the 100-meter dash, the high jump and anchored both winning relay teams to help the Cavers roll to the team title.
Brandes blazed her way to a personal-best 12.28 seconds in the 100, winning by four feet over Thurston's Brooklyn Anderson. Read More »
