City officials in Shady Cove and Gold Hill were relieved Wednesday at the news that Gov. Tina Kotek has decided against cutting state funding for infrastructure designed to spur new housing projects in those communities.

Grants Pass' Jayden Jessee wins the 100-meter dash in 11.1 seconds during a dual meet against Roseburg on Wednesday at Russ Werner Field. Jessee also won the 200 in 22.98 seconds as the Cavemen defeated the Indians 86-59.

Grants Pass senior Jayden Jessee won the 100- and 200-meter dashes as GP swept the team titles in a Southwest Conference dual track and field meet against Roseburg Wednesday at Russ Werner Field.
Jessee, who owns the top times among Class 6A competitors in the 110 and 300 hurdles, finished Wednesday's short sprint in 11.1 seconds and the 200 in 22.98.
Jessee also has the No. 3 mark in the high jump so far this season at 6-5. His top hurdles times are 14.8 and 39.31.

An investigation is underway after skeletal remains were found earlier this week in the Applegate area, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said.
The agency said the remains were discovered Sunday "outside Jacksonville in the Applegate area" and that detectives are treating the discovery as a suspicious death. Read More »

The annual Best of the Best show gives the top high school artists a chance to have work accepted into a juried show, which is held at a professional gallery.
This year, the show of 118 pieces from students at 14 high schools is at the Rogue Gallery & Art Center in Medford. Last year it was at the Grants Pass Museum of Art. The show travels year by year.
