WHITE CITY — For Patrick Oppelt, a Marine veteran, the U.S. flag is not just a piece of cloth. And the way one is handled at the end of its service matters a lot to him.
"I get very emotional," said Oppelt as he helped a local contingent of the Young Marines respectfully retire some 300 worn out flags during a ceremony Saturday at the VA rehab center in White City.

EUGENE — People have been talking about "Hayward Field magic" for decades.
Grants Pass senior Jayden Jessee found his own version of that magic on Saturday as he swept the state championships in the boys' hurdles at the Class 6A state track and field meet.
