ASHLAND — Fire season hasn't yet arrived in Southern Oregon, but the region is bracing for what state leaders are predicting will be a long and intense 2025 fire season.
In Ashland, the second annual "Sparking Action!" event brought together government agencies and nonprofit organizations at ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum on Saturday to connect locals with education and resources about fire — before it happens. Read More »

Grants Pass scored a come-from-behind win in the opener and South Medford breezed to victory in the nightcap of Friday's Southwest Conference baseball doubleheader at George Russell Field.
The Panthers (14-9, 9-8) scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to grab a 6-5 lead in the first game.
But the Cavemen (11-9, 8-7) scored four of their own in the bottom of the inning to break away for the 9-6 win.

At Riverside Park, a 38-year-old man yelling and rolling in the grass with his pants falling off was arrested on a probation violation at 5:56 p.m. Saturday. Police said they found drugs in his pocket and collected paraphernalia for disposal.
The progressive metal band Queensryche will headline the opening Boatnik concert on May 23 in Riverside Park, with Emissary opening. Tickets are on sale at boatnik.com.

The countdown to Boatnik is at T-minus 12 days and counting.
Starting May 22, the longtime Memorial Day weekend festival will take over Riverside Park, spilling over into downtown Grants Pass for the May 24 parade.
However, while most Boatnik events are free, there are a few that require tickets. Buying those tickets early will save you some money.
