Reinsurance Group of America primarily engages in life reinsurance where the firm assumes the risk of policies ceded by primary life insurers. The firm also offers asset-intensive (mainly annuities), critical illness, and financial reinsurance. RGA mainly operates in the U.S. and Canada, with representative offices in South Africa, Europe, and Asia. General American, a MetLife subsidiary, was a long-time majority owner of RGA, and currently owns 5% of its common stock.
