Richard Hudson was born in Franklin, Va., and raised in Charlotte, N.C. He earned a bachelor's in political science and history from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, where he served as student body president and president of the College Republicans.
He served as communications director of the North Carolina Republican Party in the mid-1990s. In 1996, he worked for Richard Vinroot's gubernatorial campaign. He has served as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx of North Carolina and U.S. Rep John Carter of Texas.
Hudson served as campaign manager of Pat McCrory's gubernatorial bid in 2008. In 2009, he worked as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Mike Conaway in Texas.
He owns Cabarrus Marketing Group, a marketing, strategic communications consulting and business development services consulting group.
He and his wife, Renee, live in Concord.
Richard Hudson is seeking his first election to public office.
Because Republicans are confident about flipping North Carolina's 8th Congressional District to the GOP ledger, Hudson's 2012 primary race attracted a lot of out of state funding and endorsements from former Sen. Rick Santorum and former Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Hudson has vowed to repeal the 2010 health care reform law. He is a member of the National Rifle Association, is anti-abortion and anti same-sex marriage.
Hudson says that if elected his main legislative priority will be reducing the national debt.
