Adrian Fenty overwhelmingly defeated longtime D.C. Council member Linda Cropp to become Mayor of D.C. in 2006. He won 57 percent of the vote and all 142 precincts of the city in the Democratic primary. He did not face a serious challenge in the general election. Fenty was first elected to the D.C. Council in 2000 to represent Ward 4 after waging an aggressive door-to-door campaign against four-term incumbent Charlene Drew Jarvis. He won his second council term in 2004 and served for a total of six years. (Last updated by Brian Westley on March 25, 2009.)
