Jim Doyle was elected governor in 2002, defeating Scott McCallum with 45 percent of the vote. He won re-election in 2006, defeating U.S. Rep. Mark Green with 53 percent.

He was a three-term Dane County District Attorney, serving from 1977 to 1982. He was elected attorney general in 1990, and went on to win two more terms.

Russ Feingold was first elected to the U.S. Senate with 53 percent of the vote in 1992, defeating Republican Sen. Robert Kasten. He was narrowly re-elected in 1998, defeating Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Neumann with 51 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 2004 with 55 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Tim Michels. Feingold served in the Wisconsin Senate from 1982-92.

Herb Kohl was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1988, with 52 percent of the vote, defeating then-state Sen. Susan Engeleiter. He cruised to his most recent victory, in 2006, with 67 percent of the vote over Republican Robert G. Lorge.
