NATIVITY SCENE ON DISPLAY AT FLORIDA CAPITOL
A nativity scene depicting the birth of Jesus is on display at the Capitol through the holiday season. A private group called the Florida Nativity Scene Committee installed the display Tuesday. The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida executive director Howard Simon said because the manger scene is paid for privately, the state is opening itself to allowing anyone to use the Capitol to express messages.
WOMAN AT CENTER OF INFAMOUS KILLING TO BE SET FREE
Valessa Robinson is set to walk out of Homestead Correctional Institution on Friday some 15 years after participating in the death of her mother in a Tampa subdivision. She was convicted in 2000 on third-degree murder charges. Vicki Robinson was choked, injected with bleach and stabbed to death in the family's Tampa home in 1998.
WOMAN INJURED IN ENCOUNTER WITH BEAR
A central Florida woman was injured during an encounter with a bear while walking her dog on Monday night. Wildlife officials in Longwood set up a trap on Tuesday to try to capture the bear. The woman was taken to an Orlando hospital, but her condition wasn't immediately available.
DELTA BUMPS PASSENGERS FOR UF BASKETBALL TEAM
Delta Air Lines canceled an Atlanta-bound commercial flight from Gainesville on Sunday to accommodate the University of Florida's men's basketball team. The team was flying to Storrs, Conn., for a Monday night game against the University of Connecticut. But the charter plane was ground for maintenance reasons. The bumped passengers were either placed on other flights or given vouchers for future flights.
WOMAN LEAVES BIG TIP ON THANKSGIVING
A woman left a big tip for workers at a Melbourne restaurant on Thanksgiving. The woman, who didn't want to be identified, says the workers cheered her up on the holiday and she was grateful. She added a tip of $835 for her $29.95 Thanksgiving dinner at the Chart House.
