KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) -- The Afghan government says a car bomb has exploded in the southern city of Kandahar near the governor's house.

The Kandahar local government's media office says in a statement that Monday's blast destroyed a civilian compound.

Gunfire was also heard coming from the scene of the explosion but there are no other details. There was no immediate information about casualties.
