ISLAMABAD (AP) -- The U.S. Embassy says an American diplomat accidentally killed a pedestrian while driving in the Pakistani capital.

The embassy said in a statement sent to reporters that the diplomat hit the pedestrian near a market in Islamabad on Friday. The pedestrian died as a result of his injuries.

The embassy expresses regret for the accident and says it is cooperating with Pakistani authorities on the investigation. It also says the embassy will work through its local insurance company to address financial questions or concerns of those affected by the accident.
