Bomb blasts rock city in Thailand's restive south | |||||||||||||||
HAT YAI, Thailand (AP) -- Police say two bombs targeting security forces went off in a commercial area in Thailand's insurgency-plagued south but no one was injured. Police Col. Tuanday Juthanan says the first bomb exploded in front of a shopping mall in Pattani city early Thursday. He says bomb squad unit found the second device in front of an auto showroom near the mall. The improvised bomb hidden in a gas canister exploded when they attempted to defuse it. The explosions shattered the buildings' windows but did not hurt or kill anyone. More than 5,000 people have been killed in Thailand's three southernmost provinces since an Islamist insurgency erupted in 2004. © 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
