Goodyear police officers hurt while chasing burglary suspect

GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) -- Police in Goodyear say two officers have been injured while chasing a home burglary suspect.

They say both officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries Monday and were transported to a hospital.

One officer received a head and arm injury from a spring gate while the other officer received a bite on the leg from the police dog.

Police say the officer who was bitten underwent surgery and is recovering while the other hurt by the gate was treated and released.

After the foot pursuit, one suspect was taken into custody.

Police say 21-year-old Robert Gastelum of Phoenix has been booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, burglary, resisting arrest and criminal trespass.

It was unclear Tuesday if Gastelum has a lawyer yet for his case.
