Police: Roommate is arrested in Tucson apartment homicide
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- The roommate of a man found dead inside a Tucson apartment has been arrested.
Tucson police say 21-year-old Matthew Mooney was taken into custody Tuesday night on suspicion of first-degree murder.
It was unclear Wednesday if he has a lawyer yet.
Police responding to a "check welfare" call Monday entered an apartment and found the body of 56-year-old Darl Gene Draper.
They say Draper apparently was dead several days before his body was discovered.
According to police, there were obvious signs of trauma that indicated the death was a homicide.
They say Mooney wasn't at the scene during the initial investigation and became a person of interest in the case.
Homicide detectives located Mooney at the Pima County Jail and say he was arrested Dec. 6 on an unrelated charge.
