Utah's Trey Burke scores career-high 30, Jazz hold off Magic 86-82
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Trey Burke had a career-high 30 points and eight assists, Gordon Hayward added 15 points and the Utah Jazz held off the Orlando Magic 86-82 on Wednesday night.
Orlando had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but Jameer Nelson's layup rolled off the rim and was rebounded by Utah with just 3 seconds left. Hayward then hit a pair of free throws.
The Jazz snapped a two-game losing streak and extended their win streak over the Magic to six games.
The Magic lost for the sixth time in seven home games. They continue their season-long six-game homestand Saturday against Sacramento.
Nelson led Orlando with 17 points. Nikola Vucevic had 14 points and 14 rebounds and Tobias Harris finished with 14 points and 10 boards, a season high after he returned recently from an ankle injury.
Harris was 10 for 31 in four games coming into the day. He finished a modest 5 for 14 from the field against the Jazz, but was a lot more active that he had been in his previous three games.
He got involved on the offensive end early on against the Jazz and seemed a lot more comfortable, scoring six in the first quarter.
Harris then slumped down the stretch, like so many of his teammates.
Orlando trailed by six heading into the fourth quarter, but rallied to a 76-69 lead with just under eight minutes to play. But Utah responded with a 9-0 spurt.
The Magic trailed by two after Vucevic made two foul shots with 1:33 left. Hayward then got free for a 19-footer on the other end.
Glen Davis cut it to two again at 84-82 with two more free throws, and the Magic got the ball back after Burke dribbled off his foot.
Orlando came up empty on the ensuing trip down the floor, but the Jazz had a shot-clock violation with 10 seconds left, setting up the Magic's final shot.
Utah led 49-39 at the break, sparked by Burke's 16-point first half.
Both teams had trouble getting separation in the early going before the Jazz reeled off runs of 8-0 and 10-0 to take a 12-point lead late in the second quarter.
NOTES: Burke has scored at least 20 points in four games this season. ... Orlando played without leading scorer Arron Afflalo, who was sick. He had started every game this season. ... The Jazz will honor former coach Jerry Sloan in a ceremony back in Utah next month. Magic coach Jacque Vaughn, who played under Sloan, called the honor "special" for a coach he credits as being one of his mentors. "The reason I do a lot of things I do today (is) because of him," Vaughn said.
