Death recommended again for 1983 OC killer

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- Orange County jurors have again recommended that a man be returned to death row after his previous death sentence was overturned on appeal.

The jury recommended the death penalty Monday for Richard Raymond Ramirez, who has twice been convicted of the 1983 rape and murder of a 22-year-old woman in an alley behind a bar in Garden Grove.

The case took an unusual turn six years ago when a federal judge overturned Ramirez's initial conviction after finding a juror at his 1985 trial failed to disclose he was applying to be an FBI agent.

Last year, Ramirez was convicted again of the crimes, but jurors could not agree on what penalty he should face.
