Denver police shoot, kill woman who struck officer with car
DENVER (AP) -- Two Denver police officers shot and killed a young woman who struck and injured one of the officers in a stolen car, authorities said Monday.
Few other details were immediately released after the shooting early Monday in a Denver residential neighborhood. The four other people in the car were not injured by the gunfire and all were being questioned as part of the investigation, police said. It was not clear whether any had been arrested.
Police Chief Robert White, speaking to reporters at the scene, said an officer had been called to check on a car that had raised suspicions. After the officer checked the car's license plate and determined it had been reported stolen, another officer arrived.
As both approached the car, "the driver struck the original officer," White told reporters without elaborating. Both officers then opened fire, White said.
The officer hit by the car was taken to a hospital with a leg injury.
