Thornton police shoot and wound suspect after disturbance

THORNTON, Colo. (AP) -- A Thornton police officer has shot and wounded a suspect after responding to a disturbance at an apartment complex.

Thornton police say officers responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment building early Saturday evening.

KUSA-TV reports (http://on9news.tv/2gpiQh3 ) witnesses told police that 3 or 4 people were involving in the initial shooting.

Officer Matt Barnes is spokesman for the City of Thornton Police Department. Barnes says an officer shot one of the suspects.

The injured man was taken to a hospital and his condition was unknown. Barnes says it doesn't appear the suspect fired at police but says a handgun was recovered near him.

Two men and one woman are in custody in connection with the initial shooting at the apartment. No other injuries were reported.
