Panhandle deputy shoots man during traffic stop

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida Panhandle deputy shot and wounded a man during a traffic stop.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office reports that 34-year-old Eric Jacob Moore was pulled over Wednesday for reckless driving following several calls to dispatch. The deputy took Moore's driver's license back to her cruiser, and Moore reportedly ran away.

The Northwest Florida Daily News ( http://bit.ly/12eIBmh ) reports that the deputy chased Moore, who then attacked the deputy. She shot him twice in the upper body.

Moore told deputies he was on Xanax, Valium and possibly methamphetamine. He was released from a Pensacola hospital Thursday morning and taken to jail. He was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
