Boy, 8, dies in crash on Alligator Alley

OCHOPEE, Fla. (AP) -- The Florida Highway Patrol says an 8-year-old boy is dead and an 11-year-old suffered serious injuries when the SUV they were riding in flipped over on Alligator Alley.

The crash happened Sunday in the westbound lanes of I-75, which is also known as Alligator Alley.

Troopers say 41-year-old Medaro Naranjo of Plantation drifted off the road and onto the grass median. He overcorrected his steering and collided with another vehicle. The SUV overturned.

A crash report says Andres Naranjo died and Anthony Naranjo was taken to Broward General Hospital. Four other people in the SUV were not injured. No one in the other vehicle was injured.

Troopers say charges are pending an investigation.
