1 dead in train crash near Fort Lauderdale


POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say one person is dead after a train hit a vehicle near Fort Lauderdale.

Broward Sheriff's spokeswoman Joy Oglesby said in a news release that the crash happened about 9:20 a.m. Monday on the Florida East Coast railroad tracks in Pompano Beach.

The name of the victim hasn't been released.

Nearby roads were closed while authorities investigated the crash. No further details were immediately available.
