1 killed when Amtrak train hits car near Tampa


TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A car collided with a passing Amtrak train near Tampa, killing one person.

The crash happened Monday afternoon as the Amtrak 92 train was heading from Miami to Tampa. The Florida Highway Patrol says none of the 147 passengers on the train were injured.

After the initial impact, the car erupted in flames.

Troopers say the train had minor damage but did not derail.

The victim's name hasn't been released.

An investigation continues.
