Panhandle man faces 60 years in prison for fatal shooting

PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) -- A Florida Panhandle man faces up to 60 years in prison for an apparently accidental fatal shooting.

An Escambia County jury found 40-year-old Xavier Tyrone Moore guilty Tuesday of third-degree murder, manslaughter with a weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A judge ordered a presentence investigation.

Authorities say Moore was sitting on the trunk of a car in Pensacola in June 2014 when he dropped a small .38 caliber pistol. The pistol hit the ground and discharged, striking Shaquille Purifoy in the head.

The Pensacola News Journal ( http://goo.gl/il1GVF ) reports that Moore's prior record includes robbery, possession of a firearm by convicted felon, felony battery and multiple drug offenses.
