Teen accused of making threat against central Florida school
PORT ORANGE, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a 16-year-old student is accused of making one of the multiple threats that have disrupted a central Florida school system.
Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Andrew Gant says the Atlantic High School student was arrested Thursday after confessing to posting a message on Instagram that suggested a shooting would take place Friday afternoon at Spruce Creek High School in Port Orange.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal (http://bit.ly/2otiQRg ) reports there have been a number of hoax threats in Volusia County this week, including written messages on bathroom walls at University and Spruce Creek high schools and one sent through Crime Stoppers that was directed at New Smyrna Beach Middle School.
The teen will appear before a judge Friday.
Officials say nearly a quarter of Spruce Creek's students stayed home on Thursday.
