Trooper recovering after car hits him during traffic stop

MIAMI (AP) -- A Florida Highway Patrol trooper is recovering after he was hit by an out-of-control car while making a traffic stop in Miami.

Carlos Rosario was injured Friday on the Dolphin Expressway. The agency said in a news release that Rosario's hand surgery on Saturday was "a total success."

Troopers said 37-year-old Rosario was part of a detail to stop speeding drivers on St. Patrick's Day. He was outside his vehicle conducting a traffic stop when a car driven by 26-year-old Hugo Olivares hit him.

Rosario is a 12-year highway patrol veteran.
