Iowa's unemployment rate drops to 4.4 percent
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- State officials say Iowa's unemployment rate has dropped to 4.4 percent in November, its lowest rate in five years.
Iowa Workforce Development announced Friday the rate is down from 4.6 percent in October and is the lowest level since 2008.
Iowa's rate was far less than the national rate of 7 percent, which also dropped significantly in November.
Workforce Development Director Teresa Wahlert says Iowa's job market is on a path of "steady and sustainable improvement."
The number of unemployed people in Iowa fell to 72,500 in November from 75,700 in October.
The state says nearly 1.6 million Iowans have jobs.
