Iowa's unemployment rate up slightly to 4.2 percent

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Iowa's unemployment rate rose slightly again in August to 4.2 percent but remains lower than the national rate.

Iowa Workforce Development reported Tuesday that the August rate was up from 4.1 percent in July and an increase from 3.6 percent a year ago.

Iowa's unemployment rate compares to a 4.9 percent national rate.

The rate increased although the number of working residents increased by 1,700 people to a total of 1.64 million.

The number of unemployed residents increased to 72,700.
