Suspected gunman not found after W. Ind. standoff

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) -- A Terre Haute man is being held after authorities after police surrounded an apartment house where gunfire had been reported and discovered the suspect wasn't inside when they entered several hours later.

Thirty-year-old Jeremy Ross was being held in Vigo County Jail Thursday on $35,000 bond on a charge of criminal recklessness.

The Tribune-Star reports ( http://bit.ly/14zfjCl ) police entered the apartment following a lengthy standoff late Wednesday night after responding to reports of a domestic disturbance and gunfire.

Following up on an anonymous tip, police later found Ross hiding in a garage in a home across town.

Ross has several prior convictions on burglary and firearms charges.

Police say they had been called to the apartment house repeatedly over domestic disturbances.
