CRESTLINE, Kan. (AP) -- A pilot says the oil pressure in his crop duster fell sharply before the small plane crashed in far southeastern Kansas.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says the crash happened shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday near an industrial park north of the Cherokee County town of Crestline.

Forty-eight-year-old John Tim Kellogg, of Riverton, told troopers the plane seemed to lose all power as a he made a 180-degree turn toward a safe landing place after the oil pressure dropped. Kellogg says he was able to clear a tree line before bringing the plane down in a freshly plowed field.

The patrol says the plane was destroyed in the crash. Kellogg was able to find the landowners and call for help. He was taken to a hospital in Joplin, Mo.
