Baltimore police commander to head OC department

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- A Baltimore police commander has been named the chief of the Ocean City department.

Lt. Col. Ross Buzzuro will assume his duties in the resort town on July 2, overseeing nearly 100 full-time officers and 100 seasonal officers.

Buzzuro began his law-enforcement career in 1985 as a police cadet in Baltimore. He was named lieutenant colonel in 2007. Buzzuro has a bachelor's and master's Degree in Management from John Hopkins University.

He will succeed Bernadette DiPino, who left Jan. 1 to become police chief in Sarasota, Fla.
