Veteran alderwoman to run for mayor of St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (AP) -- A longtime member of the St. Louis Board of Aldermen is running for mayor.

Democrat Lyda Krewson announced her candidacy Tuesday through a posting on YouTube. She will seek the post in the April 2017 election. Incumbent Mayor Francis Slay, also a Democrat, is not seeking re-election.

Krewson is 63 and has been a member of the board for nearly two decades. She also is chief financial officer of PGAV Architects.

She says her top priority will be public safety. Krewson's husband was fatally shot during a 1995 carjacking while she and the couple's two young children were in the car.

Aldermanic President Lewis Reed has also announced he will seek the Democratic nomination.
