Man pleads guilty in shooting that killed teen soccer player
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- A Wake County man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from the death of a teenager who was killed when a bullet fired from an adjacent room in a hotel pierced a wall.
Local media outlets report 43-year-old Randall Vater pleaded guilty in a Wake County court on Monday to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 13-year-old Nathan Andrew Clark of Lewisville in Forsyth County.
Clark, who was in Raleigh in November 2014 waiting to play in a soccer tournament, was in a bed at the hotel when Vater picked up a gun from a bedside table in the adjacent room and it went off.
Vater also pleaded guilty to being a habitual felon. A firearms charge was dropped as part of the plea arrangement with prosecutors.
