Son hospitalized after crash that killed father, 2nd driver

LLOYD, N.Y. (AP) -- A 29-year-old man remains hospitalized with injuries suffered in a two-car collision that killed his father and another motorist on a Hudson River bridge earlier this week.

Friends of 50-year-old Mark Ashby Sr. of Accord and his son Mark Jr. tell the Times Herald-Record of Middletown ( ) that the two men were heading to their jobs as maintenance workers at a rubber products business in Pawling in Dutchess County when their car was hit head-on by another vehicle on the Mid-Hudson Bridge around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The elder Ashby was killed, as was the driver of the other vehicle, 31-year-old Steven Vaughan of Poughkeepsie. State police say Vaughan was fleeing the scene of a stabbing in Poughkeepsie when he crossed into the eastbound and hit Ashby's car.

The son is in fair condition at Westchester Medical Center.
