Additional charges may be coming in case of Zymere Perkins
NEW YORK (AP) -- Prosecutors in New York City say the boyfriend of the mother of a 6-year-old boy found dead last fall could be charged with killing him.
Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance is gathering evidence to bring homicide charges against 42-year-old Rysheim Smith in connection with the Sept. 26 death of Zymere Perkins.
The news comes three months after the boy's death was ruled a homicide. Prosecutors say Zymere died after suffering months of abuse at the hands of his mother and Smith.
Smith has already been charged with child endangerment in Perkins' death. Vance declined to comment on whether the boy's mother will face additional charges as well.
Several employees of the city's Administration for Children's Services were disciplined after the boys died.
It's unclear if Smith has an attorney who could comment.
