A western New York man has been sentenced to six years in prison for coercing a 15-year-old girl to take pornographic pictures of herself and then using them to extort sex from her

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- A western New York man has been sentenced to six years in prison for coercing a 15-year-old girl to take pornographic pictures of herself and then using them to extort sex from her.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John Field says 29-year-old Jose Alvarado of Irondequoit (uh-RAHN'-duh-kwoyt) was sentenced in federal court Thursday.

Field says Alvarado used his iPhone and other digital devices to coerce the girl into having sex with him on multiple occasions. He says Alvarado convinced the girl to take sexually explicit pictures of herself and text them to him, then threatened to expose the pictures if she didn't have sex with him.

Prosecutors called it a case of "sextortion."

Alvarado's prison time will be followed by 15 years of supervised release.
