OLEAN, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire at a western New York that claimed the lives of a woman and her teenage daughter over the weekend.
Police in Cattaraugus (kat-uh-RAW'-gus) County say the fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in the city of Olean (OH'-lee-an), on the Pennsylvania border 60 miles southeast of Buffalo.
Fire Chief Robert Bell tells the Olean Times Herald ( http://bit.ly/IZB2w3 ) that Kristie Bell and her 16-year-old daughter, Monica Greene, died in the fire. Bell says the victims were his niece and great-niece.
Officials say three other people escaped with minor injuries and were treated at Olean General Hospital.
Police say the house was fully engulfed by the time emergency crews arrived on the scene. The structure was destroyed in the fire.
