National Guard soldiers in aviation brigade arrive home in New York after Kuwait deployment

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- More than 250 soldiers in a New York Army National Guard aviation unit are back home from the Persian Gulf.

National Guard officials say the soldiers in the 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade arrived home over the weekend after demobilizing at Fort Hood. They arrived at the Texas Army base earlier this month after serving overseas since December.

A second group of about 150 soldiers from the same unit are scheduled to return from overseas Tuesday and Wednesday to begin their demobilization tasks at Fort Hood. They're expected to get back to New York state over the next two weeks.

The 42nd Combat Aviation Brigade is based in the Albany suburb of Latham. Other elements of the brigade are based in Rochester, Olean, Dunkirk and Long Island.
