Police: Western NY boy, 2, drowns in pool after wandering away from home

TONAWANDA, N.Y. (AP) -- Authorities say a 2-year-old boy has drowned in a backyard pool after wandering away from his family's Buffalo-area home.

Police in the town of Tonawanda, just north of Buffalo, tell local media outlets that the boy got out of the house around 1 p.m. Thursday and ended up in a nearby pool.

Officials say he was given emergency CPR after being found at the pool, but he was pronounced dead at Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

Police haven't leased the child's name.
