2 dead, 1 critically injured in crash near Grants Pass
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon State Police say two people died and a third was critically hurt in a head-on crash southwest of Grants Pass.
According to a spokesman, a man driving a new Nissan Altima on Highway 199 started passing vehicles in a designated passing lane, but then crossed over a double yellow line and collided with a 2001 Dodge pickup.
The driver of the Nissan, 61-year-old Gary Martinich of Brookings, died at a Grants Pass hospital.
The driver of the Dodge, 73-year-old Larry Tyler of Kerby, was in critical condition at a Medford hospital. His passenger, 72-year-old Virginia Tyler, died at the scene Tuesday afternoon.
The crash investigation remains active. Police say speed and alcohol are possible factors.
