Teen killed by car while crossing Portland street
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- A teenage girl has died after she was hit by a car in Portland.
The Portland Police Bureau said in a news release they responded to a crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian Friday afternoon and found the girl had died at the scene.
Police say initial investigation shows the teen was crossing Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard when she was struck by a car heading west. The driver is cooperating with investigators and the road was closed during the investigation.
No further information was immediately available.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports the fatality is at least the 30th traffic death in Portland this year.
A 2015 Portland Traffic Safety Report says Portland averaged 33.25 traffic deaths per year from 2000 to 2015.
