GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) -- Authorities say a 51-year-old Grants Pass man drowned over the weekend as he was swimming in a turbulent section of the Rogue River.
He was identified as Rodney Ray Clayburn.
The Grants Pass Daily Courier reported (http://bit.ly/168XOsy ) he was swimming with friends Saturday in the Galice area.
Deputy Ernie Fields of the Josephine County sheriff's office says Clayburn got into a narrow spot where the stream runs fast and churns among rocks. Witnesses say he tried to stand on an underwater gravel bar and lost his footing.
A dive team member found his body the next day.
