PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The mother of a child abducted from a Philadelphia kindergarten and sexually assaulted is testifying about the day her daughter went missing.
The 40-year-old woman says she never knew the girl had left school until 3 p.m., six hours after the girl left with a stranger.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old defendant Christina Regusters knew the girl from an after-school program and took her from her kindergarten classroom without identification.
They say she then sodomized the girl before abandoning her the next day.
The mother says her daughter was in pain and appeared drugged when she was found. She later needed surgery to repair her injuries.
The now 7-year-old girl is expected to testify later Wednesday.
The defense argues that police have the wrong suspect.
