Mother of abused Pa. boy pleads no contest
LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) -- A central Pennsylvania woman has pleaded no contest to charges stemming from the severe abuse and death of her infant son.
The Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era (http://bit.ly/1c7P1Nc ) said 24-year-old Brianna Michael of Columbia pleaded no contest Monday to felony counts of aggravated assault, child endangerment and hindering apprehension.
Authorities said 6-week-old Andrew "A.J." Moyer was tortured for at least a week before a final beating in October 2012 caused fatal brain injuries.
Prosecutors said Michael didn't deliver the fatal blow but she abused the infant and forged a "false confession" from a roommate.
Andrew's father, 25-year-old Andrew Moyer Sr., was sentenced to life in prison in October. He said Michael was responsible for the burns on her son's hands and buttocks and severe injuries to his genitals.
