Driver faces charges in hit-and-run that killed boy
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Police say they've arrested the woman behind the wheel of a sport utility vehicle that struck and killed a boy in southwest Philadelphia in April.
Authorities say 27-year-old Shanika Mason was taken into custody Wednesday. The Sharon Hill woman is charged with homicide by vehicle, accident involving death and involuntary manslaughter.
Surveillance video shows the vehicle striking 4-year-old Abdul Wilson on April 13 in the city's Kingsessing neighborhood. Police say Mason ran over the child a second time as she tried to flee.
Defense attorney Michael Diamondstein tells WCAU-TV that Mason surrendered to police Wednesday. The SUV was found in an underground parking garage the next day after its owner called Diamondstein, who called police.
