Deadline approaching for Pennsylvanians to register to vote

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Pennsylvanians who are not registered to vote but want to cast a ballot in the primary election are running out of time.

Monday is the last day to register to vote in the May 19 balloting that will decide the Republican and Democratic nominations for state, county and local judgeships, as well as hundreds of local offices and school-board seats.

Although turnout for such elections is typically low, this year's ballot features a crowded race for an unprecedented three open seats on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

To register, a person must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old and a Pennsylvania resident for at least 30 days prior to the election. Applicants may register by mail or in person, but not online or by telephone.
