Pa. man arraigned in wife's shooting death
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) -- A northeastern Pennsylvania man appeared in court for the first time Friday to enter a not guilty plea on a criminal homicide charge in his wife's shooting death.
Forty-eight-year-old Vito Aiello's lawyer entered the plea during the formal arraignment Friday in Luzerne County.
Defense attorney Demetrius Fannick said his client was pleading "not guilty at this time."
Prosecutors allege the defendant shot 47-year-old Jane Aiello in their Wilkes-Barre home on Sept. 26 before turning the gun on himself in a failed suicide attempt.
Their teenage son said he was playing video games when he heard his parents arguing and then a shot, then saw his father standing over his mother holding a pistol.
Court records indicate that shortly before the shooting, Jane Aiello had filed for divorce after 22 years.
