England misses European quarterfinals for 1st time since '93

England was left without any teams in the European quarterfinals for the first time since 1993 when Dynamo Kiev scored three first-half goals against American Tim Howard and beat Everton 5-2 Thursday night for a 6-4 aggregate win.

A day after Manchester City was eliminated from the Champions League, Andriy Yarmolenko, Lukasz Teodorczyk and Miguel Veloso scored for Dynamo to build a 3-1 lead against the visiting Toffees, who had tied the score on a 29th-minute goal by Romelu Lukaku.

Oleh Gusev and Antuses made it 5-1 before Phil Jagielka scored for Everton, which had been unbeaten in the Europa League this season.

Roma, Inter Milan and Torino also were eliminated.

Defending champion Sevilla defeated Villarreal 2-1 on goals by Vicente Iborra and Denis Suarez for a 5-2 aggregate win and stayed on course to win Europe's second-tier competition for a fourth time in 10 years.

Gonzalo Rodriguez, Marcos Alonso and Jose Maria Basanta scored in the first 22 minutes, leading Fiorentina to a 3-0 win and at Roma and a 4-1 aggregate victory.

Roma captain Francesco Totti, goalkeeper Morgan de Sanctis, and midfielder Daniele de Rossi led the rest of the team's players over to talk to fans after the final whistle. Totti spoke for a long while with the head of the "ultras."

Napoli tied Dinamo Moscow 0-0 to advance 3-1 and reach a European competition for the first time since winning the 1989 UEFA Cup.

Inter lost 2-1 to Wolfsburg, which got a late tiebreaking goal from Nicklas Bendtner, and the Germans advanced 5-2. Torino beat Zenit St. Petersburg 1-0 but was eliminated 2-1 on aggregate.

Ukraine's Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk lost 2-1 to Ajax in overtime but advanced on away goals with the aggregate 2-2.
