LONDON (AP) -- The FA Cup final has been restored to its traditional place as the last match of the English football season.

In recent years, the Cup final has had to share the spotlight with Premier League games.

The English Football Association said Wednesday that the final will take place at Wembley Stadium on May 17 - a week after the Premier League season has ended.

FA general secretary Alex Horne says "we're well aware that fans and media have been calling for the FA Cup final to have a day to itself and we're delighted that this is going to happen for 2014."

Manchester United secured the Premier League title on the same day as the 2011 FA Cup final between Manchester City and Stoke.

Wigan won this year's FA Cup.
