MIAMI (AP) -- Aletta has weakened to a tropical depression as it swirls far out over the Pacific.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says Aletta's maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph (55 kph) with additional weakening expected.

The depression is centered about 835 miles (1,340 kilometers) south-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California and is moving west-northwest near 3 mph (6 kph).
