SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Mexico has extradited a man to the United States to face charges that he killed a Border Patrol agent by striking him with a Hummer loaded with drugs.

The U.S. attorney's office in San Diego said Jesus Navarro Montes arrived Thursday in Houston and will be moved to Southern California in the next few days.

The U.S. sought his extradition after Mexican authorities arrested Navarro near the resort town of Zihuatenejo in February.

Border Patrol agent Luis Aguilar died from injuries when he was struck in southeastern California's Imperial Sand Dunes in January 2008.

Prosecutors say Navarro could face a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted of second-degree murder, and a maximum sentence of 40 years if convicted of narcotics charges.
